Sine at Panitikan 2017

Last Tuesday, FDCP Cinematheque held the program "SiPat: Sine at Panitikan". This is part of the Buwan ng Panitikan ng Filipinas 2017. The event began with a screening of the newly restored film classic "Noli Me Tangere" by legendary Filipino filmmaker Gerry De Leon. Then the screening was followed by a lecture and Q & A with Film Archivist and National Commission for Culture and the Arts Commissioner Teddy Co, and G. RR Cagalingan of the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino.
The event was followed by snacks and ended with a Poetika that highlighted Fiction Reading. The Fiction Reading opened with  the works of Palanca Hall of Famer Leoncio P. Deriada, and the zines of writers in the region.

This is actually the first time I watched Gerry De Leon's "Noli Me Tangere" and it was a very lovely piece of art, with groundbreaking film techniques and remarkable acting that could match with today's thespians. The lecture that followed was eye-opening as well. Mr. Cagalingan was able to talk about Philippine literature and how it may relate to such adaptive forms of art such as in film. Mr. Co on the other hand was able to talk about similar topics from more of the film art point of view, and he was able to elaborate on the restoration of films as well.

The Poetika which featured Fiction Reading capped the evening in a lovely and vibrant manner, as it attracted readers, writers, and lovers of literary art. For an art event that was held on a Tuesday, it was such a success. We could hope to see more of events like this, and see you by then as well.
